(ANS – Madrid) – About 150 Rectors of Salesian communities in Spain, France and Portugal will be meeting between 8 and 12 October at Sanlúcar la Mayor, Seville, to reflect on the role of the Superior in a religious community nowadays.
During the meeting the Rector Major, Fr Pascual Chávez, will give a reflection on the personal and community renewal proposed by the 26 General Chapter (GC26), and on the role of the Rector as animator of the community. His talk will also present the Salesian Superior in the context of the Project for Europe, one of the projects set up by the GC26 aimed at revitalising presence of the Salesian charism in the Old Continent.
Other items on the Agenda include spiritual guidance in a Salesian religious community and the guidance of an apostolic work. A team of two Salesian priests – one young and one older – and a Salesian Brother will describe the profile of the Rector they would like to have, in this way providing input for a discussion among those taking part.
Among those also present at the Rectors’ Meeting will be Archbishop Juan José Asenjo Pelegrina, of Seville, who will preside at Mass on one of the days and Bishop José Vilaplana Blasco, of Huelva, who will preside at Mass at “El Rocío”, where the Rectors will be going on pilgrimage.
This Rectors’ Meeting will be taking place at an important time for the Congregation, as it is within the much wider context of the Project for Europe and also in view of the restructuring of the Salesian presence in Spain.
As well as the Rectors from Spain, France and Portugal, Fr José Miguel Núñez, Councillor for the West Europe Region to which these countries belong, will be in attendance
