(ANS - Lome)- It is customary in academic institutions for the new year to open officially with a celebratory inaugural lecture. The Don Bosco Higher Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences (ISPSH, in French) at Lomé, is no exception to this rule. Accordingly, on 30 September last, the 13th year of courses began.
The introductory lecture was entitled "Anthropology faced with the challenge of a pluralist society - anthropology today between the Centre and the Periphery: state of the art." It was given by Fr Francis Gatterre, SDB, Rector of ISPSH until 2012. He expressed his delight and pleasure at being invited back to the institute. He also presided at the Mass that preceded the formal opening.
There were many distinguished guests present, beginning with Prof. Octave Broohm Nicoué, the Togolese Minister for Higher Education, who is also a teacher at the Don Bosco ISPSH. The other teachers of the school were also present, as well as clergy of the diocese, the Superiors of the Congregations that send their students to study at the Salesian College, and many students.
At 12:45 local time, Fr Alphonse Owoudou, the present Rector, declared the academic year 2013-2014 officially opened. He took the opportunity to announce that the courses this year, starting the very next day, would take place in the new premises of the ISPSH. Before the students entered, Fr Gatterre blessed the new classrooms.
