(ANS – Guwahati) – The Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) is all set to release a journal on hundreds of indigenous cultures found in India’s northeastern region. It is the first scientific journal to be published by the five-year old university.
The Journal of Northeast Indian Culture (JNEIC) “will be a catalyst in promoting a true understanding and appreciation” of these cultures that “our land is blessed with,” says ADBU Vice Chancellor Fr Stephen Mavely.
The journal would approach these cultures “not from the position of assumed or unassumed privilege or superiority, but from the perspective of fellow travelers who seek to explore, understand and celebrate the wonder of diversity while appreciating the fundamental ties and values that bind men and women everywhere,” the Salesian priest told mattersindia.com.
The JNEIC is a Peer Reviewed International Journal devoted to social, philosophical and religious underpinnings of the region and is scheduled for release on 29 October.
Its first volume has 128 pages containing eight scholarly articles and a book review.
The biannual journal is edited by Fr Paul Pudussery and a team of four associate editors along with a 12-member Advisory Board and a 10-member Review Board.
Concluding the editorial in the first issue, Fr Pudussery believes “this international journal will open up Northeast India to larger academic audiences and encourage mutual dialogue and criticism.”
JNEIC will report, research, construct and elaborate concepts related to the social, philosophical and religious underpinnings of the Northeastern India region and provide a platform for serious thought provoking deliberations that will engender change and ensure continuity, the editor said.
