(ANS – São Paulo) – Cardinal Odilo Pedro Scherer, metropolitan Archbishop of São Paulo, has appointed Bishop Tarcisio Scaramussa, SDB, as Vicar-General "ad interim" for the Archdiocese. Bishop Scaramussa is an Auxiliary Bishop and Episcopal Vicar for Sé which covers the central region of the diocese and the city itself.

Bishop Scaramussa, as specified in the appointment, will immediately take on the new role and will retain the other tasks he carries out, such as his responsibility for the Youth Sector.

In an interview on the website of the Archdiocese of São Paulo, the Salesian Bishop said he felt "the closemess, support and fraternal style of the Cardinal, whichmakes me feel calm and confident in my service to the Archdiocese”.

“The Vicar-General”, Bishop Scaramussa later explained, “is the one to whom the Diocesan Bishop delegates his ordinary power to help him govern the entire diocese. … I receive this appointment as a term of service which I am willing to accept with joy and dedication, as an extension of the work I already do with other auxiliary bishops of the Archdiocese and Cardinal Cláudio Hummes”.

"The Church”, he concluded, “is God's channel, so in every call to service I can hear God's will for me. When the Lord entrusts us with a mission, he also helps us throughout its course, including through the Church itself ".
