(ANS – Pamplona) – On 29 July, Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management and automation, awarded first prize in the National Energy Efficiency Competition for Professional Training to the Salesian College in Pamplona. In the competition a team made up of ten students and teachers of the first year of a basic degree course in Electrical and Automatic Installations, presented a study of energy saving for the centre with the aim of reducing consumption of electricity and diesel.

After a detailed analysis of the current consumption, the group proposed an plan to save 30% of electricity consumption and 20% of fuel, thus ensuring a significant improvement in the Energy Class of the building. Participants calculated the savings based on the installation of light controls, LED lamps, solar panels, thermostats and central home automation from Schneider Electric.

The initiative is in its fourth year and sponsored by ISEF (the Schneider Electric Training Institute). It has the support of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport and is aimed at students in Vocational Training. It involves the construction of an energy efficiency project and its installation in their schools.

The winning project includes a set of actions with potential savings. Among them is the installation of a timer and motion sensors to control the light in classrooms and laboratories, as well as the installation of LED lamps and a solar photovoltaic system. In addition, the group has made it possible to rely on one central home automation and a thermostatic valve to manage consumption of energy for heating.

For this ambitious study, the French multinational will give the centre the materials needed to implement the actions described in the project and financial help to get it started.

The jury awarded the second prize to the project prepared by the Training Centre of Muskiz Somorrostro (Vizcaya), with proposals that can reduce energy consumption at the centre by up to 30%. The third prize went to IES Azuer de Manzanares (Ciudad Real) for a project for zero power consumption in the centre.

With this competition, Schneider Electric is committed to spreading among future professionals the values ​​of teamwork, energy efficiency and a commitment to care for the environment. "We welcome the success of the fourth year of this competition," said Jose-Emilio Serra, Vice President of Strategic Development and Institutional Relations at Schneider Electric.
