RMG – The World Consultative Committee for the Missions begins work |
Vietnam – Salesian missionary animation |
Italy - The urgent need to proclaim the Gospel |
It is the first time that the Committee constituted by Fr Vaclav Klement on 25 June has been able to meet. The meeting has three aims: to reflect in missionary terms on the 26th General Chapter and some of the practical implications during the next six-year period 2008-2014; to further the implementation of the Project of animation and government of the Rector Major for this period; to plan the future programme of the Committee itself.
The members of the Committee, Salesians and lay people are expert advisors called together by the Department for the Missions on account of their experience in various fields connected with missionary activity, animation and formation. Also taking part in the meeting are representatives of the Departments of Youth Ministry and Social Communication.
Today 1 October the Rector Major, Fr Pascual Chávez, in speaking to the members of the Committee took the opportunity to sum up the current situation of the Congregation regarding its commitment to the missions, referring to some of the problems encountered but also the prospects and challenges for the future, among these the need for a change in the model of the pastoral approach of the Salesians, so that it becomes much more explicitly evangelising.
The meeting will end tomorrow 2 October.
