2/12/2015 - India - A global climate change for a better environment

(ANS - Hyderabad) - As world leaders from 196 countries are meeting in Paris to discuss climate change and work together to protect theenvironment, the leaders of the "Wada Na Todo Abhiyaan" in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana held an event in Hyderabad on 28 November to raise awareness and cooperation on the issue.

The event was organized by several organizations working with children or for a better society, as part of the Global Movement for Change "Action 2015".  Among these organization were the NGOs "World Vision", "Save the Children", "District Child Protection Unit" (DCPU) and "Don Bosco Navajeevan".

Opening the activity Fr Pallithanam Thamas, National Convener of "Wada Na Todo Abhiyaan" said that in the world we have faced many natural disasters due to climate change and that in the last 20 years 690 million children have died from malnutrition and many individuals are affected by floods worldwide.

Ms Tabitha of World Vision asked all those present to say "No to Plastic" and to sensitize others on this issue.

Ms Shamala Devi, Chairman of the Committee for the Welfare of Children, expressed his happiness at being able to participate in the initiatives of "Action 2015". Ms. Chandana, from "Save the Children" supported the call to take care of the earth and nature. There was also a song on the same subject performed by Mr. Nagesh. Mr. Ambedkar from the Club of Children's Rights, added that it is the duty of each individual not to damage the nature we have inherited.

On behalf of the Salesians Fr Sudhakar pointed out the relationship between human beings and trees, without which humanity could not live, and he invited everyone to plant a tree.

The meeting ended with the promise of all to take care of the environment. Some balloons were release as part of a show on the theme of respect for nature.
