(ANS – Krakow) – Between 3 and 7 September at the theological studentate in Krakow the Team Visit to the East Sector of the North Europe Region took place. The meeting at which Fr Pascual Chávez, the Rector Major, presided was an opportunity to assess how the various Provinces have been following up the suggestions of the 26th General Chapter.

On the first day Fr Francesco Cereda, Councillor for Formation, introduced the topic, which was then discussed in groups. In the evening the Rector Major in the Good Night mentioned World Youth Day in Madrid and the presence of young people from the Salesian Youth Movement at the “festival of faith.”

On Sunday 4 September after Mass the topics considered were charismatic identity in the new European context, evangelisation and vocation ministry. Those who spoke included Fr Adriano Bregolin, Vicar of the Rector Major, and Fr Fabio Attard, Councillor for Youth Ministry. Then in group work prospects in the various Provinces and houses were examined. With regard to vocations there was unanimous agreement about the need for the “courage of the faith”. In the Good Night on this second day Fr Chávez spoke about the VI International Congress of the Association of Mary Hep of Christians (ADMA), held in Częstochowa.

The third day also began with Mass at which Fr Attard spoke about the centrality of the witness of adults in drawing young people to the faith. In the work sessions consideration was given to the implementation of the 26 General Chapter in different places and the process of the  renewal of the Salesian charism as an integral part of the Project for Europe. The Economer General, Bro. Jean Paul Muller, gave a talk in which he said that all Salesian works belong to the young and should serve the Salesian mission.

On Tuesday 6 September, the penultimate working day there was discussion about the structure of the Special East Europe Circumscription and the Project for Europe, considered two key topics for the future of the North Europe Region. In the afternoon some of the more significant places in Krakow were visited, in particular those connected with Salesian history and with John Paul II. One of the more significant events was a meeting by those taking part in the Team Visit with the Cardinal of Krakow Stanislao Dziwisz. In the evening the Provincials taking part in the meeting thanked the Rector Major for the special care he has shown for the North Europe Region and for the confreres in the Region.

The Team Visit finished yesterday Wednesday 7, after Mass. Fr Chávez underlined the importance of living the Salesian charism in a radical manner, always putting Christ at the centre of one’s life.
