(ANS – Dimapur) – On Sunday, 30 September, around 800 youngsters, either Catholics or people of other Christian denominations, from Dimapur, took part in the Annual Youth Meeting for 2012, a day-long programme with the theme “Youth For Ecology”.

The Annual Youth Meeting for 2012, at Salesian College, Kuda Village, Dimapur,  began at 9.15 am, with the ceremony being inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Nestor Guria, the Salesian Provincial of Dimapur. Rev. Fr. Carlous Neisalhou, Vicar General of the Diocese of Kohima, Nagaland, presided at the Mass. He exhorted all the students and participants to have a good and harmonious relationship with Mother Earth. On the same tone he also inspired the youth present to love all animals and birds and work towards their preservation.

After the Mass the young college brothers and sisters, conducted sessions for about an hour instructing the youth on Ecology: the need to preserve the forest, birds and animals, emitting less carbon, reducing the threat of global warming and the Greenhouse effect…

After the lunch break, the youngsters gathered in the College auditorium for a cultural programme. Mr. Nibu Nagi from Kuda village, was the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by his wife. In his speech he spoke of the importance of keeping an ecological balance, and the need to care for the environment for our future generations. He also inspired the students by narrating his own life experience of the struggle he had in growing up in life. He had to sell vegetables, run bread shops and perform odd jobs to engage in studies and be successful. Today he is the Director and Proprietor of N.N. Construction and Décor, and Hotel Tragopan.

The programme came to a happy conclusion with the distribution of prizes for the Bible Skit and Bosco Singout competition which was held in the month of August. The Youth Director, Rev. Fr. Christudoss, SDB, also awarded prizes to some Youth Volunteers in the Oratory Centres as signs of appreciation for the help rendered.
