(ANS – Panama City) – On 18 March in Panama City the XVI Meeting of the Inter-Province Conference of Mexico, Antilles and Central-America of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and of the Salesians (CIMAC-Mesoamerica), which had opened on Monday14 came to an end. With  Fr Miguel Angel García, the Youth Ministry Delegate for the area of Schools and Vocational Training in the chair, the Delegates for School ministry reflected on the topic of spiritual accompaniment.

The meeting opened with the reading of a message from Fr  Fabio Attard, Councillor for Youth Ministry: “cordial and fraternal greetings to everyone at the meeting of CIMAC-Mesoamerica, in Panama for Salesian schools. From the very beginning the Salesian school has existed in order to proclaim the Gospel and so this is a mission which has always be part of the educative and evangelising system of the Salesians and of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.”

Later in his message Fr Attard wrote: “In this meeting you will be dealing with a very important subject, which starts from the conviction: our young people are hungry for meaning and for hope, which only God can satisfy; indeed urged on by grace and by freedom, our boys and girls will be the Christians who live their faith in the Church and in the world, seeking to transform society and living according to the Gospel. We hope that these days will provide the foundation for a sound accompaniment so that every teacher and every educative and pastoral community really is accompanying these new generations.”

During the first two days there was a presentation of various procedures for accompaniment in school ministry, which were then studied further in groups, in which those taking part offered their own contributions and finally a reflection on the basis of each region.

At the end those taking part approved some strategic guide lines for accompaniment in the CIMAC-Mesoamerica school ministry, with a structure on three levels: regarding the overall atmosphere of accompaniment, it was aimed to involve the young people themselves as well as the presence of the teachers  so as to create a positive atmosphere in the school; regarding group accompaniment there was emphasis on the  importance of creating groups with the specific purpose of formation, evangelisation and social outreach according to Salesian youth spirituality; and as regards personal accompaniment, it was decided to focus on formation jointly provided by the consecrated persons and the lay teachers involved.

The CERCA-Panama Team which organised the event, was congratulated for the high standard of the work undertaken with the result that the objectives were achieved. The next meeting of the CIMAC-Mesoamerica is being planned for February  2012 at Guadalajara, Mexico.
