“Every year we accept 400 so that they can get over the atmosphere of violence in the refugee camps and learn a trade for life. 1200 youngsters from Darfur have already followed the technical course and received the diploma and a precious tool-kit for the work they have done. Many of them have already for a job. The Tribal Leaders with a telling phrase have said ‘Only Don Bosco helps our youngsters.’
Fr Donati says that of the various NGO engaged in the area, only a few are able to think about the youngsters’ future Among the groups are also the Salesians. “It’s a marvellous thing trying to re-create Don Bosco’s Oratory under another sky, in another culture with other youngsters,”
With the letter some videos also arrived – made by the Salesian Brother Alessandro Bertocchi. In them the story is told of how the Oratory, which Don Bosco wanted to be a place of welcome and of growth, has been planted in El Obeid. Some of them have been put on ANSchannel.
In addition to those with the band conducted by Fr Donati, of special interest are the shots which document the building of the dormitories for the El Obeid students carried out thanks also to the solidarity campaign organised in Italy in December 2007 by the Don Bosco in the World Foundation and linked with the Christmas Concert Produced by Prime Time Promotions.
There are also two videos about the centre in Wau, the first with the celebration of the Feast of the Assumption, 15 August 2008, the second about the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the presence of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in Sudan, the 50th anniversary of profession one of the Sisters and of the perpetual profession of another.
