Canada – St. Benedict’s Parish welcomes Syrian family |
(ANS - Mexico City) - On 24 February, 25 young people from the Salesian Youth Movement in the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, arrived in Mexico City. They were accompanied by Fr Alain Leonard, Vice-Rector of the Salesian community of St John Bosco in Sherbrooke belonging to the Eastern Province of the United States which also includes Canada.
They were met by Fr Victor Manuel Flota Diaz and accompanied to the Salesian centre Artesanado Salesian de Nazareth, in Santa Catarina Yecahuizotl, in the Tláhuac area of Mexico City, where the Rector is Fr Enrique Vázquez Martínez. This Salesian centre is a shelter and residence which are part of the Salesian project Chavos de Don Bosco (Don Bosco boys), run by the foundation Déjame ayudarte IAP (let me help), on behalf of the Salesian Province of Mexico City.
The young Canadians remained in Mexico until Saturday 5 March. They had a beautiful and profitable experience. On 29 February and 1 March, in particular, they got to visit Chignahuapan, not far from Puebla, where the headquarters of the project Chavos de Don Bosco is located.
They had taken part in the experience of the Aux Berges Dominique Savio consisting of students of the Salesian seminary and a mixed private secondary school in Sherbrooke and the Dominic Savio Camp. These Salesian centres are located in the Canadian province of Quebec, very close to the border with the United States. Every year Fr Leonard forms a group of young people who wish to have a missionary service experience to get to know the Salesian project Chavos of Don Bosco for teenagers.
