(ANS – Granada) – Between 26 and 29 December, in the context of the Project for Europe and the process of  the re-organisation and the re-vitalisation of the Salesian presences in Spain, a second meeting was held in the novitiate in Granada for the Salesians in initial formation from the 6 Spanish Provinces.

There were four items on the agenda. The first and second were introduced by the Councillor for the West Europe Region Fr José Miguel Núñez: - “First, the re-structuring of the Spanish Provinces” – an invitation to make the structural change of the juridical areas an occasion for the re-vitalisation of the charism of every Salesian.

The second was “Young Religious for a re-newed consecrated life.” The Councillor re-affirmed that in Salesian consecrated life the  centrality of God and the living of the vows so as to make Jesus of Nazareth visible was vital.

The Provincial of Valencia, Fr Juan Bosco Sancho, gave the third talk: “The Salesian mission in a globalised context with special reference to Western Europe.” He gave an analysis of the current situation: a context marked by the economic crisis, the evolving of new forms of religion and the great challenges facing the Church, the Congregation and each Salesian. In his talk, Fr Sancho referred to the Acts of the 26th General Chapter and the relaunching of the Salesian mission in Europe.

“In view of the bicentenary of Don Bosco” was the fourth and final topic dealt with by Fr  Francisco Ruiz, Provincial of Seville. He developed two main themes: the need for a young person in initial formation to know and to live the Salesian spirit, through the Constitutions, and the deeper study of the history, the pedagogy and the spirituality of the saint of youth.

The programme of the study days also provided moments of prayer, of  lectio divina, the Mass together and  a vocation vigil.

Hosting the event were the novices in Granada, the Director of Novices, Fr Alejandro Guevara and the formation team.
