(ANS – Boko) – A new section of the Don Bosco School, Boko was inaugurated by Fr V.M.Thomas, Provincial of Guwahati and blessed by Fr Porcu Mario, a veteran Salesian missionary of Guwahati Province on 29 June 2013. The Boku Salesian community was established in 1993, as a part of Guwahati Salesian Province, and is situated about 65km south-west of Guwahati city.

The inauguration was a red-letter day in the annals of the school. Thousands of people including teachers, students (present as well as past pupils), parents, religious and lay people gathered for the event.

Fr Vincent Xalxo, rector of Don Bosco Community, Boko, welcomed guests and all present for the occasion. Among the invitees were Fr V.K. Jose, who worked in Don Bosco School, Boko, for twelve years; Fr Francis Cheerampan, Fr P.D. Johny, Fr Johnson Parackal, Fr K.J. Thomas.

In his inaugural speech, Fr V.M. Thomas expressed his appreciation for the role played by Don Bosco School, Boko, in imparting quality education to the rural children of the area. He urged the children to give of their best and to dedicate themselves to their work in order to grow up as fully developed persons.

Fr Porcu Maria, who blessed the new school building, gave a brief history of the initial stages of the school. He spoke about the sacrifices and struggles the early missionaries had to face in making the school a reality. He said he was happy to see the school becoming so big and contributing so much to the children of the region. He pointed out that it was all because St John Bosco was with them all through.

There was also a cultural programme exhibiting the many hidden talents of the young children of the school. During the programme Mr Shantilal and Mr Amit Jain, both past pupils of Don Bosco School, Boko, were complimented in a special way for their contribution towards the construction of the newly extended school building. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Fr Saju Kariyil, Principal of the School.
