(ANS – Rome) – The winter plenary session of the General Council began yesterday, 3 December, following the now proven timing, rhythm for its procedures. The opening day started in the morning in an atmosphere of prayer and spiritual meeting and, in the afternoon, set the roadmap that will see the Rector Major and his Council committed until January 25.
Wanting to emphasize the particular circumstance of the Year of Faith, the General Council went, in the early morning, to the altar of Saint Peter's Tomb beneath the Vatican to celebrate the Eucharist. Then, still in the Basilica, the Rector Major proposed a reflection on the Motu Proprio "The Door of Faith" by the Supreme Pontiff Benedict XVI and, at the end of the morning, in front of the altar of St Peter's Chair, the General Council renewed their Profession of faith using the text prepared by Pope Paul VI.

The winter session programme of the General Council will feature events like the course for recently appointed Superiors (9 - 20 December), the celebration of the Rector Major's birthday (20 December) and the 31st Days of Spirituality of the Salesian Family (17 – 20 January, 2013).
