Held at the Provincial House the meeting was attended by 19 Salesians, Delegates or their representatives Salesian Social Communication in the Provinces of South Asia; 4 Daughters of Mary Help of Christians engaged in the same area representatives of Salesian Youth Ministry the National Delegate for SC in India, Fr Glorious Stephen; the General Councillor Fr Filiberto González and the Secretary of the Department Fr Julian Fox.
As a start each Delegate presented the situation in the Province in this way they were able to survey the progress made, note items that still needed to be completed, and move forward with a series of deliberations which will further strengthen the Salesian mission in South Asia, following the indications of GC 26 and those of the meeting two years ago in Hyderabad.
The main topic was the renewed Salesian Social Communication System, which was thoroughly studied by delegates at the meeting. The Delegates were then to give a presentation of the renewed SSCS to the Provincial and his Council, members of the Social Communications team, and other commissions in the Province such as Youth Ministry and Formation.
To achieve greater collaboration among the various sectors the Delegates proposed to provide a detailed National programme of studies in education to the media.
Because of the numerous activities and challenges in the area of communication the Assembly at Tiruchy suggested that the National Delegate for SC should be a full-time post and that he should be assisted by a team of co-workers who can respond to his requests for assistance in areas such as public relations, issues pertaining to law (e.g. registration) or branding (e.g. logo, web site domains), … The issue of public relations, with the Press and other bodies was noted as of particular importance and urgency.
After having drawn up some guide lines regarding “Bosco Information Service” (BIS) and the training of local correspondents, the Assembly also expressed appreciation for the initiatives jointly launched by the Salesians and the FMA to spread the annual Message of the Pope for World Communications Day. In this regard the Salesian Delegates proposed to plan a series of events starting from 2012 and suggested that a suitable source for future local initiatives would be the section specially created on the sdb.org site.
