On Saturday 1 December in the cities of Milan and Rome, with “Io donna”, a weekly supplement to the Italian daily newspaper “Corriere delle Sera”, a DVD with the documentary film “Il viaggio di Grace” was distributed. The film, produced by International Voluntary Service for Development (VIS) and by DBN, describes the dramatic situation of Sudan and of its population through the thoughts and hopes of Grace, a 12 year girl, who with her father faces the extremely long journey from Khartoum, where the family had sought refuge when the civil war broke out, to Nazareth, in the south of the country where they had originally come from. The newspaper also contains an article by Niccolò D`Aquino who describes the work that VIS, DBN and the Salesian Family in general are doing in this corner of the world. In other Regions of Italy the supplement will contain a brochure with information.
This is part of the project “Everyone at school in southern Sudan”, promoted by VIS and supported by the Association “Thirty Hours for Life” and by the well known Italian TV personality Lorella Cuccarini. “In the Don Bosco school at Ngangi,” – Lorella Cuccarini says- “I met so many Graces. Hundreds of girls and boys who are learning how to have a dream of a better future. Without education there is no development, no peace, no future.”
Another project on behalf of Sudan is the Christmas Concert organised by Prime Time Promotions and now in its 15th year, which will be accompanied by a solidarity campaign for the “Don Bosco in the World Foundation” and programmes to support child refugees from Darfur. The Concert, to be held in the Philharmonic Theatre in Verona will include a variety of musicians and singers, Italians and others performing on the stage next Sunday 9 December. Among those expected to attend are the Rector Major of the Salesians Fr Pascual Chávez, various members of the General Council and Fr Vincendo Donati who is working in the community in Elobeid and will speak about his experience of the situation and the work in Dafur.
The event, accompanied by a national campaign to collect donations via telephone and Text messages will be broadcast on the evening of 24 December on RAI2.
