(ANS - Rome) - The Race of the Saints in 2015 will take place next Sunday, 1 November, the Solemnity All Saints. It is a sports initiative linked to Solidarity. This year it will support the project of the DON BOSCO IN THE WORLD Foundation on behalf of Ebola Orphans. Tomorrow, Saturday 31 October, at the Sala Tevere of the Lazio region, there will be a press conference at which one of the speakers will be Carl Lewis, one of the greatest athletes of all time.
This is now the eighth running of the Race of the Saints. It will begin in the morning with a Mass in St Peter’s Basilica for the athletes and the general faithful. The competitive race will begin at 10.00 a.m. (local time) while the non-competitive race will start 20 minutes later. The event will end after the award ceremony with the Angelus prayer and the words of the Pope.
There will be a press conference tomorrow to introduce the sporting event and details of the solidarity project. Among the speakers will be Fr Tullio Orler, President of the DON BOSCO IN THE WORLD Foundation; Fr Nicola Ciarapica, Salesian missionary, Rector of the work at Matadi in Monrovia, Liberia, headquarters of the Ebola Orphans project; and the legendary "Son of the Wind", multi-Olympic medal winner and world champion, Carl Lewis.
The number 45598 has been active from last Sunday 25 October until 1 November for anyone who wishes to make a small donation to support the Ebola Orphans.

Among the various initiatives related to the Race of the Saints it is worth mentioning the guided tour "In the footsteps of Don Bosco waiting for the Jubilee" organized by the Salesian Youth and Social Tourism Association. It is a journey of about two hours, which will begin at the Salesian Basilica of the Sacro Cuore and will pass the Basilicas of St Mary Major and St John Lateran, with guides from the Youth and Social Tourism Association, professional guides and homeless people who stay near Termini Station in Rome. The route will be coordinated by volunteers from the Salesian work at Sacro Cuore.
