(ANS- Guatemala City) - The second day of the visit of the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, to Guatemala was given to the Salesians in formation. At midday, the Rector Major met with the Salesian Brothers engaged in the two-year formation course at the Regional Centre for Training of the Salesian Brother (CRESCO).

This Regional Centre was described by the Rector Majoras "one of the jewels of the Congregation." At present it is catering for seven Salesian brothers from El Salvador, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Mexico.

In the afternoon, on a visit to the post-novitiate, Fr Á.F. Artime met Salesians of Guatemala, those in initial training and those who work in various educational projects in the country of El Salvador.

In a climate of trust and family spirit, the Rector Major presented the highlights and shadows of the Salesian Congregation. He also urged all to live intensely the Salesian mission, devoting themselves entirely to the young.

He encouraged the province to have hope, to work with the laity and to share responsibility with them.  He stressed the great wealth of the province as seen, for example, in the significant number of young vocations.

The meeting ended with a Mass of thanksgiving for the 50 years of the post-novitiate. Three Salesian Bishops - Archbishop Oscar Julio Vian of Guatemala City; Bishop Mario Fiandri, Vicar Apostolic of El Petén; and Bishop Elias Bolaños of Zacatecoluca, El Salvador – concelebrated with the Rector Major.

In the evening the Rector Major greeted the host community in a warm, fraternal meeting. Today, 7 November Fr Á.F. Artime is travelling to Venezuela.
