(ANS - Aleppo) – There were new attacks and new massacres all over Syria on Sunday, 21 February: four explosions in Damascus, two attacks in Homs, and Aleppo is again disputed land between the army and various rebel factions. In this nightmare scenario the Salesians remain alongside the young people.

Punto elenco 22/2/2016 - Uganda – Agricultural education for young people of Don Bosco Kampala
(ANS - Namugongo) - Uganda is a predominantly agricultural country, with 80% of its area devoted to agriculture. However, young people seeking jobs in urban areas often leave small agricultural plots of land in rural areas uncultivated. The soil is fertile and there are two rainy seasons per year, resulting in two harvests a year. The Salesians have begun to take advantage of this situation to offer additional educational opportunities.

Punto elenco 22/2/2016 - RMG – Death of Umberto Eco, Salesian Past Pupil
(ANS - Rome) - About midnight on Friday, the Italian newspapers shocked the world of literature and culture with the news of the death of Umberto Eco, writer, philosopher, and also a Salesian past pupil. Eco received his Salesian education and, indeed, in many of his works he made reference to the Salesians and Don Bosco. In an interview he remembered the good times spent with the Salesians and expressly remembered Don Celi: "This Salesian taught me how to play a musical instrument."

Manila, Philippines - February 2016 - On 20 February, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle Gokim, Archbishop of Manila, presided at the celebration of the re-enthronement of the statue of Mary Help of Christians in Manila Cathedral.   Fr Anthony Bicomong, Superior of the Northern Philippines Province (FIN), was present for the occasion.

Sumba Island, Indonesia - February 2016 - The Salesian presence in Sumba Island, Indonesia, began in 2001, with the novitiate and a small vocational training centre. During these 15 years the Salesian community has grown and now has two levels of initial formation, pre-novitiate and novitiate, and has recently obtained official government recognition as a High School.  "SMK Don Bosco" has also opened a new chemistry laboratory. The work also has an oratory, a boarding school and a parish. Araçatuba, Brazil - February 2016 - During his visit to the Province of Campo Grande (BCG), Fr Natale Vitali, Councillor for the American Southern Cone Region, presided over the inauguration of new classrooms and the opening of the Academic Year of the Salesian University of Araçatuba, in the presence of various civil and religious authorities, The University educates about 8,000 young people. It is the Salesian university with the best assessment in Brazil, and has qualified to open a course in Medicine due to the project submitted and the quality of education. Perez Zeledon, Costa Rica - February 2016 - On 20 and 21 February the Youth in the Spirit Encounter Programme conducted spiritual experience no. 20 which was attended by 48 young people. Over a period of 14 years, this Programme has been attended by over a thousand young people.
