Mumbai, India – 25 January 2012 – Over 300 people including students and staff from 20 schools in Mumbai took part in an ecological initiative “Meet the Mithi” held on 25 January in the “Maharashtra” Nature Park. Promoted by “GreenLine”, a Salesian environmental forum, the aim was to make the new generations aware of environmental issues. Fr Savio Silveira SDB the Director of GreenLine, opened the morning speaking about the contaminated state of the river Mithi and what might be the responsibilites of the citizens of Mumbai. After watching a documentary film the young people were invited to tell their families about it. The day ended with some clean-up operations by the students armed with brushes and gloves clearing rubbish from part of the banks of the river Mithi.
