Henderson, Solomon Islands– 24 July 2013 – On 24 July, the Australian Minister for International Development, Melissa Parke, visited the Don Bosco Technical Institute (DBTI) at Henderson in the Solomon Islands. The minister was welcomed by Fr Ambrose Pereira, Director of the work, by Ms Camari Bainivalu, President of the Institute and by many members of staff and students. She was accompanied by various Australian officials, among them Sue Connell who is in charge of AusAID in the Solomon Islands. Ms Parke was interested in knowing more about the life and work of Don Bosco. She expressed her admiration and satisfaction at the equipment and possibilities being offered to the students of DBTI, thanks to the recently established collaboration between the Salesian School and the “Australia-Pacific Technical College” (APTC), a programme set up by the Australian government.
