(ANS – Freetown) – On Saturday, 26th of October, the Salesians in Freetown, Sierra Leone, organized an exhibition of skills and talents of 60 girls and young women on the premises of Don Bosco Fambul. The trainees were former beneficiaries of the girls shelter.
These girls have experienced violence such as domestic violence, rape and sexual harassment, forced marriage and trafficking. Since then they have been part of an 18 month skills training program in various hotels, hairdresser and tailoring shops as part of their rehabilitation.
Trainers and trainees were given now the opportunity to present their skills and products to the general public in Freetown. Furthermore the trainers in particular presented either their small business or their commitment to the training of young disadvantaged people. Hundreds of visitors admired the show and the great impact of the skills training department at Don Bosco Fambul.
Don Bosco Fambul hopes that this will increase teamwork: on the one hand the organizers of the workshops will continue to feel obliged to follow their commitment, on the other hand small entrepreneurs may want to follow suit. Nevertheless it was the trainee’s craft skills that were on show and in focus. Apart from putting on the exhibition itself, the preparation for the event was of crucial significance.
The skills training program is financed and supported by Vastenaktie in The Netherlands.
