24/1/2013 - RMG - Appointment of the new Superior for France-Belgium South

(ANS – Rome) – The Rector Major, in agreement with his Council, has appointed Fr Daniel Federspiel as the new Superior for the Province of France-Belgium South. Notification of the appointment was communicated today, the Feast of St Francis de Sales, by Fr José Miguel Núñez Moreno, Councillor for West Europe region.

Fr Daniel Federspiel was born on 22 January 1960 at Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin, in France. He entered the Salesian novitiate in Pouillé in 1981 and made his perpetual vows on 25 September 1988 at Nôtre Dame de Bausset. His priestly ordiantion took place on 21 April 1990 at Lyon.

Amongst the various responsibilities he has held, he was Rector at Ressins (1996-1999), Novice Director at the novitiate at Lyon-Fourvière (2005-2009) and since last July has been Rector of the Salesian community at Argenteuil.

From 2005 to 2008 he was Delegate for Youth Ministry, Mission animation and vocations in the then Province of France. In the new Province of France-Belgium South he has been Delegate for the Salesian Mission, Vocations, Prenovitiate and Novitiate and has been a member of the Province Formation team.

Fr Federspiel succeeds Fr Joseph Enger, Superior of France since 2005 and, since 2008, of France-Belgium South.
