(ANS – Rome) – On Monday afternoon 9 July the novices from Genzano, accompanied by their Director of Novices Fr Leonardo Mancini and by Fr Roberto Corna and Fr Carlo Melis, met the Rector Major at the Generalate.
The meeting began with a serious discussion about consecrated life and its significance in the modern world. Starting from the challenges to the decision for consecration in contemporary society and culture, which can be accepted as further motives confirming it, the Rector Major invited the young novices to make the Lord Jesus the centre of their life’s journey in a radical and authentic manner, with a view to the giving of themselves totally and without reserve so as to be in the world ‘mystics’ or “or metaphors of God,” prophets of communion and servants of the young.
Mass followed at which Fr Chávez presided accompanied by the members of the General Council.
The novices gave the Rector Major two t-shirts on which was reproduced a photo of them with him and then sang “Da mihi animas”, the hymn for the European Meeting of Novices held in Pinerolo in May, on the occasion of the Feast of Mary Help of Christians .
“it was a great gift to meet the Rector Major in suich a simple and friendly manner,” Fr Mancini, the Director of Novicea said. “The fatherliness, affection and interest he always shows us encourages the young novices on the eve of their first profession as Salesians of Don Bosco”.
