(ANS – Ciudad Guadalupe) – Last Sunday 8 July with a Solemn Mass at which Mons. Jorge A. Cavazos Arizpe, Administrator Apostolic of the archdiocese of Monterrey presided, celebrations began for the 50th anniversary of the parish of “María Auxiliadora” in Ciudad Guadalupe, in the state of Nuevo León, for several generation a focal point for many families in their faith.
Starting in July 1962, the second in the City of Guadalupe, the parish was entrusted to the care of the Salesians a few months later, in January 1963 and the first parish priest was Fr Mauro Garza.
Sunday’s celebration brought together many of the faithful engaged in the pastoral life of the parish and the Salesians who over the years have worked there as well as some former parish priests. Also present were many members of the Association of Mary Help of Christians (ADMA); including some “founder” members of the local association and of the parish community, including the first inhabitants of Linda Vista colony where the church is located.
In this way celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the parish and at the same time of the arrival of the Salesians in the city began. There are various activities planned; including the formation of a dance group in honour of Mary Help of Christians who gave a first perfomance on Sunday 8 July.
The Social Communication Delegation of the Mexico-Guadalajara Province is preparing a short documentary on the history of the parish.
Over the years with the growth of the population other parishes have been formed including “Our Lady of the Angels,” also entrusted to the Salesians.
