(ANS – Onteniente) – On Sunday 18 December at Onteniente, Valencia, there was the Christmas Concert organised by the Citizens Musical Artistic Union on behalf of the Salesian NGO “Jóvenes y Desarrollo”. About 200 people were in the audience.

The representative of the Community Fr Antonio Echeto, received a cheque for 1.300 €, the result of a collection by the people of Onteniente, who decided to give it to a project in Mali, one of the poorest countries in the world, where  46% of the population are still illiterate and only 8% have access to health care. The money will be used to furnish a library in a secondary school and for scholarships.

The school in Touba, built in 2010, provides secondary schooling for over 300 children and young people. To help those who come to the school from rural areas there is also a hostel accommodating 30 students so that they can stay throughout the school year and thus contributing to cutting down the number of those who drop out of school. The provision of the library will give the youngsters in Touba a suitable place to study.

For the first time five local schools took part in the Christmas Concert, and these performed various Christmas items which they had prepared, and which were accompanied by an orchestra. The members of the orchestra, most of them young people, performed in a way that delighted and at times amused the audience.

The event was sponsored by the  “Atrium” Company  in collaboration with the Onteniente local authorities.
