Mons. Dario Viganò, Professor of Communication and Principal of the “Redemptor Hominis” Pastoral Institute at the Pontifical Lateran University, one of the main speakers said that social relationships assist the development of the media and the media have an impact on the nature of social relationships. In fat the theme of the meeting was reflection on communication and its relationship with everyday life and present day cultural expressions in the context of communication in the Church.
Each day there was a round table discussion in the morning followed by a open discussion; in the afternoon there were workshops and guided tours and in the evening artistic-cultural performances and the presentation of awards for communication by the National Bishops’ Conference of Brazil (CNBB).
On 19 July “Rádio Dom Bosco”, from the Recife Province took part in a meeting of SIGNIS/Brazil. Introducing the Salesian radio station, the last one to join the Catholic Radio Network of SIGNIS (RCR) was Marcos Vasconcelos, the executive director who spoke about organisational aspects and future plans. Jocasta Pimentel, a Producer and Journalist for the Station, spoke about the current radio programmes and programme making. “Those responsible for SIGNIS/Brazil have given us an enthusiastic welcome since it is clear that we are a radio at the disposal of the Church in Brazil and that we want to collaborate in this significant process,” Marcos Vasconcelos observed.
“The participation of Radio Dom Bosco was important on account of the suggestions about how the work ought to be conducted through a planning vision, the training of groups and the contents,” the President of RCR, Frei João Romanini remarked.
SIGNIS/Brazil is preparing to face two challenges: the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council; and the implications of the democratisation of communication in Brazil which the National Congress is working on.
Radio Dom Bosco, thanks to the Provincial Department of Rio de Janeiro, has been able to give updates with interviews for its listeners about Muticom 2011.
Radio Dom Bosco, based in the Salesian house in Fortaleza (BRE), has about 300,000 listeners each day.
