Spain – A minute’s silence for peace in the Ivory Coast |
Spain – An urgent appeal from Salesian Missions |
“There are people dying every day in our mission because of the terrible conditions we are in,” the Salesian missionaries in Duékoué, Ivory Coast report. Insecurity, lack of food, shortage of drinking water and medicine: this is the daily situation in the Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus” Salesian mission in Duékoué. “Over 30,000 people have flocked to the mission, which when full could provide hospitality for at the most 8,000 people standing. There is no food, people are sleeping on the ground, there is no where else to go, there are no toilets or washing facilties and we have no drinking water”, reports Fr Vicente Grupeli, the Rector, a powerless witness.
The Salesian Missions are appealing to International Agencies to send help for the people and to furnish a refugee camp to provide at least the minimum of hygiene requirements. Thousands of people will need help for months to come. For this reason the Salesian Missions have opened a fund for donations on behalf of the Ivory Coast:
