Reflections were led by Fr Luis Timossi, in charge of formation in the “Blessed Ceferino Namuncurá” Province of South Argentina who examined the life and work of Don Michael Rua, emphasising his fidelity to the Founder of the Congregation. “Don Rua’s virtue was not a simple imitation of Don Bosco, but above all a ‘dynamic fidelity’, which , while retaining the spirit of the founder managed to respond to the new situations which the world and the Church were then experiencing,” Fr Timossi explained
For the group of Salesians in formation the meeting was a very satisfying experience as it enabled them to spend together moments of fraternity, joy and optimism about the future of the Congregation and had served as an encouragement to follow Don Bosco faithfully. Reflection on Salesian identity together with the opportunity to share different cultures and customs had been of benefit to everyone taking part.
According to Fr Carlo Lira, Rector of the Postnovitiate in Chile and the organiser of the meeting it had been “an experience for meeting each other, feeling the universality of the Salesian Congregation and sharing ideas about the way each community operates in its own Province.” “It is an experience we would like to repeat in future years,” he added, “since there are many benefits we can gain from it.”
