(ANS – Vatican City) – Yesterday, 1 December, Benedict XVI accepting the resignation on grounds of age of Archbishop Floribert Songasonga Mwitwa as Archbishop of  Lubumbashi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, apppointed Archbishop Jean Pierre Tafunga Mbayo SDB as his successor. He had  been coadjutor archbishop since July 2008.

Born in 1942, Archbishop Tafunga was ordained priest in 1972, and appointed Bishop of Kilwa-Kasenga in October  1992 and consecrated on 31 January 1993. In 2002 he was transferred to the diocese  of Uvira.
