The “Salesians in Society” (SCS) Federation intends to send 6 young volunteers, 2 for each country to Salesian mission centres in Luanda (Angola), Bujumbura (Burundi) and Santa Cruz (Bolivia), to help with the education, social integration and the improvement of living conditions of children at risk, of young people and of women in the places concerned.
In particular those going to Angola will be involved in very poor and run-down areas of the city of Luanda, in the Municipality of Sambizanga, where they will help to organise and run activities for welcoming, educating, training and in the social integration of children and youngsters from the streets.
In Bolivia the volunteers will be collaborating in activities aimed at making civil society more aware of the safeguarding of human rights and the education of children in the reception centres at the Techo Pinardi, Patio Don Bosco, Granja Moglia, Hogar Don Bosco, Mano Amiga, Barrio Juvenil and Obras Sociales del Plan 3000.
In Bujumbura, in the Buterere district the volunteers selected will make their contribution to the social, educative and formation activities, and human development already in progress at the vocational training centre, the reception centre and home for street children and the oratory at the Salesian “Cité des Jeunes”.
In the different countries the volunteers will be engaged in the role of educators and social workers working beside Salesians, and the local educators and social workers already there.
Set up in 2001 National Civilian Service is one way of being of service to the state but working overseas and contributing to sharing of common values and solidarity. Young Italians between 18 and 28 can take part.
In the Servizio Civile section of the site of the SCS Federation all the necessary information is available on this and other projects.
