16/1/2010 - Haiti - The work of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians
(ANS - Port-au-Prince) - Sr. Marie Claire Jean, Provincial of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in Haiti, has some information about their situation in Port-au-Prince, but has not been able to communicate with the other communities except Hinche where the news was reassuring.

In Port-au-Prince some FMA houses have been severely damaged but no Sister has been killed. One young Sister, Piard Mathilde, who was taken for treatment for an injury to her ankle was released after a few hours. At “Mary Help of Christians” the secondary school section was totally destroyed, but providentially all the girls had left. At “Petion-Ville” the house has been badly damaged and the school section put out of use while a good part of the section occupied by the community has collapsed. The entrance to the house and the front part of the chapel have also come down.

In spite of everything the FMA have immediately set to work with a first report on their site.
