Fr Klement’s invitation is for them not only to take part in that event but especially to be involved with the volunteers leaving on the missionary expedition which in recent years has seen not only Salesians and Daughters of Mary Help of Christians as the protagonists but also young people and the laity often belonging to groups of the Salesian Family.
In his commentary on the 2009 Strenna the Rector Major points to the missionary field as one of the areas for collaboration between the different groups of the Salesian Family also called to promote new and relevant initiatives at the service of the young and of evangelisation. In the same commentary Fr Chávez proposes “The animation and promotion among young people and adults of Salesian social and missionary Voluntary service, as a Salesian response to the great challenges of the world of youth nowadays, in particular poor youth and those at risk.”
The appointment therefore is for next 27 September at Valdocco, in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians, when there will be the ceremony for the presentation of crosses to those taking part in the 140th Salesian missionary expedition.
