(ANS – Rome) – On the programme yesterday  5 January, of the Congress on the Preventive System and Human Rights there was the presentation of examples of “good practice,” some positive experiences from the Salesian world in the area of education in and the safeguarding of human rights.

In the morning after the introductory “Golden Thread” presented by Fr Fabio Attard and Carla Carazzone, and an opening prayer there was the showing of video “Citizens of the world” illustrating the “PlaJiS”, an educational  project of the Salesians in the Barcelona Province (SBA) of education to justice and solidarity.

Afterwards, Fr Mario Pérez, the Salesian Rector of the Ngangi centre, in Goma,  introduced a video “Goma, a light in the darkness” showing the work of the Salesians who provide shelter for the children and youngsters fleeing from the war and from the poverty which sadly are a feature of the region.

Then, together with Fr Vito Orlando, Lecturer and Vice Rector at the Salesian Pontifical University and Fr Ferdinando Colombo, Delegate of the National Centre for Salesian Work (CNOS) with the International Voluntary Service for Development, Fr Pérez spoke about examples of “good practice.”

A third video, this one about the work at “Boys Town” in the city of Rome, showed the Salesian involvement in education and the safeguarding of the human rights of children.

Before the participants returned to groups work there was a round table discussion in which Salesian Brother Jean Paul Muller, a  psychopedagogist, Fr Ricardo Tonelli, Professor and Vice-Rector of the Salesian Pontifical University and Sr. Adair Sberga FMA who had organised the methodology for the group work in the Congress, spoke about some of the issues.

In the evening there was a programme of entertainment provided by the “Barabba’s Clowns” Group from the Salesian centre in Arese.

Once again thanks to the joint efforts of the ANS and the VIS Press Office, the Association di’Dee, and produced by the Don Bosco Missions Media Centre in Turin, two further TV 70 minutes specials will be broadcast. The 2 remaining transmissions, like the first two, covering the activities of the Congress will be broadcast by Telepace, today 6 January and again tomorrow  at 14.50 (GMT+1) with repeats at 03.00 the following day, and on SAT2000 starting on Monday 5 January at 00.10 with repeats at 06.45. The TV specials will also be available in streaming on www.missionidonbosco.tv, with repeats, again starting on Sunday 4 January at 14.50, 00.10 and 06.45 as always (GMT+1).
