Argentina – a new nursery |
The libretto written 20 years ago by Manuel González Gil, a well-know Argentinian theatre director on the occasion of the centenary of the death of Don Bosco, was revised and updated by some youngsters from the “Laura Vicuña” Institute, the “Ángel Zerda” Institute and from the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) of Salta. The show with action, singing and dancing was most enjoyable, thanks to the perfect performances by the young people and especially by Germán Méndez, a Salesian teacher who played the part of Don Bosco.
According to the Salesian Fr Ricardo Cámpoli, in charge of the production, the main purpose in staging the event was to raise funds to support the continuing presence of the Salesians in the area and at the same time as an act of homage to Don Bosco.
Preparations which began last March involved a large number of people; in addition to the young actors, volunteers, teachers, parents and some youngsters worked on the staging and on publicising the show.
Performed first in the theatre of the “Ángel Zerda” Institute and then in the “Cultural Hall” in Salta, the musical gives an account of two journalists looking for a story who meet Don Bosco which then changes their lives.
Further information about the musical “Bosco, in the name of God” can be found on the official site.
