In Krakow, present with the Councillor were the SC Delegates and those responsible for communication structure from the Provinces of Poland, Slovenia, the East Circumscription, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Croatia.
Also at this meeting the starting point was the exchange of information about the progress made and the various initiatives in each Province. From the wide diversified panorama a variety of projects emerged and a continuing emphasis on the new forms of communication. As well as the traditional printed page –SB, youth magazines and other Salesian publication – there is the production of musical CDs and a effort, as in the case of TV LUX in Slovakia, at new ventures. Each Province is developing its presence on the web improving the site and making it more a more a focal point for youth and for the Salesians themselves.
Fr Antoni Balcerzak, from the Department for Youth Ministry in Rome, took part in the meeting and offered a socio-pastoral reading of this part of Europe, characterised through historical events by the same challenges, especially to the faith. Fr Balcerzak’s presence was a sign of the close links it is intended to make in the Salesian mission between youth ministry and communication. Fr Balcerzak recalled that Salesian activity is essentially education to the Christian life, and SC is called to contribute to this mission.
In the discussion which followed the need was seen to always give more attention in the formation of Salesians and lay people to these new “playgrounds” where youngsters are gathering together in ever greater numbers. Fr Gonzalez, referring to the indications given by the GC26, reminded those present that Salesians are called to meet the young where they are to be found. The Councillor also mentioned the “Salesian Social Communication System”, the document proposed by the Department some years ago, as being still a valid point of reference for the planning of SC which always ought to be in harmony with the Provincial Plans.
Among the conclusions emerging from the meeting were those of encouraging initiatives of formation in SC and a effective collaboration among the Salesian Bulletins especially as regards common areas of ministry.
A second meeting for the other Provinces in the North Europe Region is planned for Horn, in Austria, between 10 and 12 November.
