Organised by Prime Time Promotions, it will take place in Piazza Vittorio Veneto and will open the celebrations in honour of St. John the Baptist, Patron of the city. According to the local organisers this open air event will involve about 200,000 people.
The event is aimed at raising funds for the “Foyer LAKAY” Project which for a number of years the Salesians have been running in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to bring abandoned youngsters without families in off the streets, provide them with an education and prepare them for work. Between 23 and 29 June, in Italy, an sms number will be available – 48566 – for contributions.
On the stage there will be performances from well-known Italian and international musicians interspersed with accounts of their personal experiences by some of the street children and the conditions in which they were living. Also taking part will be Mory Kanté, an artist from Guinea and an Ambassador for FAO, with 15 musicians who will perform on traditional African instruments.
Recordings of the events will also be broadcast by the Italian national RAIUNO on 28 June at 16.05 (GMT+1).
The “Don Bosco in the World” Foundation is an organisation of the Salesian Congregation for raising funds and supporting the activities of Salesian Missionaries around the world.
