(ANS - Vitoria) - The Rector Major arrived in Brazil yesterday, 18 April, to take part today at Vargem Alta in the episcopal ordination of Bishop Tarcisio Scaramussa, until a few months ago General Councillor of the Salesian Congregation for Social Communication.
At the airport of San Paulo, to welcome the Rector Major, accompanied by his Vicar, Fr Adriano Bregolin, and by the Regional Councillors for America South Cone, Fr Natale Vitali, and for Italy-Middle East, Fr Pier Fausto Frisoli, was a delegation of Salesians and students of theology representatives of the Provinces of Brazil. Fr Ch‡vez then went to Vitoria, capital of the State of Spirito Santo.At Vitoria the Rector Major blessed and opened some new work-shops in the Salesian house and unveiled a commemorative plaque. Afterwards Fr Ch‡vez visited the premises accompanied by Fr Ovidio Zancanella, out-going Superior of the Province of Belo Horizonte, to which the house in Vitoria belongs, and by Fr Oscar de Faria Campos, Rector of the community.
Later the Rector Major met the youngsters and the staff of the Salesian centre who greeted the IX successor of Don Bosco with songs and dances. Fr Zancanella, thanked the Rector Major for his visit to Brazil, the first journey after his re-election. The Rector Major spoke to the youngsters reminding them of the two main things usually offered by a Salesian house: education and the chance to get to know and draw close to Jesus., our only Saviour.
