(ANS – Rome) – Three appointments of new Provincials have been announced for the six-year period 2008-2014 agreed during the December-January Winter Session of the previous General Council and ratified in the first few says of the new Council.

Fr Maurizio Spreafico is the new Provincial of the “Jesus Adolescent” Province of the Middle East (MOR). Originally from the Italy Lombard-Emilian Province, Fr Spreafico, after being in Rome between 1997 and 2003 at the Salesian Centre for Youth Ministry went to the MOR Province where he spent the first two years at the Salesian house in Cairo-Zeitun. When the news of his appointment as Provincial reached him he was in the house of Alepo, in Syria, as Vice Rector.

Fr Luciano Stefani, originally from Italy, is the new Provincial of the Salesians in Venezuela. The new Superior of the “Saint Luke” Province (VEN) made his novitiate and then followed the first part of his initial formation in Venezuela. He then studied theology at the “Saint Thomas” Studentate of Philosophy in Messina, Italy. Among his responsibilities in addition to that of Rector has been Director of Novices and Provincial Councillor.

Fr Stephen Nam Sang Hon, finally, is the new Superior of the “Holy Korean Martyrs” Province of Korea (COR). Fr Nam, 48 years of age, is Rector of the  postnovitiate  community in Kwangju and Provincial Councillor. He has a Doctorate in Moral Theology from the University of Munich in Bavaria and has been teaching Anthropology, Philosophy and Ethics at the Catholic University of Kwangju.
