In the letter simple and from the heart, Mgr. Scaramussa expressed his gratitude for the welcome he received and the friendship he experienced immediately on his election as Councillor and during the six year period for the initiatives he promoted.
Mgr. Scaramussa, who willing be definitively leaving the Generalate on 19 February, will not be present at the General Chapter but has made arrangements for presentation of the report and the assessment of the progress made by the Department during the last six years.
Before taking his leave he referred once again to the letter of the Rector Major, “With the courage of Don Bosco on the new frontiers of Social Communication” (AGC 390), in which Fr Chávez saw the need for a return to the founder in order to maintain the “process of identification with our Father, who in his apostolic zeal sought to be open to all the frontiers in order to reach the young.”
“In obedience I now leave living in community in the Congregation,” - Mgr. Scaramussa writes in his letter, - “but I continue to be always in communion with the Salesian charism, this great gift of God’s fatherliness in my life. I entrust myself to your prayers so that I may carry out with the pastoral heart of Don Bosco and of St Francis of Sales this new mission as a Bishop.”
Mgr. Scaramussa will be ordained Bishop on 19 April, at Vargem Alta, in the diocese of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim in the State of Spirito Santo, by Cardinal Odilo Pedro Scherer, Archbishop of São Paulo, who will be assisted by Bishop Célio de Oliveira Goulart, OFM, of the diocese of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim and Bishop Décio Zandonade SDB, of the diocese of Colatina.
The installation of the Bishop Scaramussa will take place on 3 May in the Metropolitan Cathedral of “N. Senhora da Assunção” in São Paolo.
