Mexico – Opening of 5th International Conference on Mary Help of Christians |
(ANS – Mexico City) – The Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Pascual Chávez, who came to Mexico to take part in the 5th International Congress on Mary Help of Christians, also had the opportunity to preside at the Eucharist where 11 young men made their first profession in the Society of St Francis de Sales.
The celebration took place on 16 August last at the Natiional Shrine to Mary Help of Christians in the Mexican capital, where, as the profession formula puts it, the 11 young men made their vow, standing before the ninth successor of Don Bosco, to be obedient, poor and chaste, according to the Gospel way traced out in the Salesian Constitutions.
The newly professed, belong to both Mexican provinces, were with their parents, friends and superiors (Fr Filiberto González, from Mexico North, and Fr Miguel Aguilar, from Mexico South), as well as their Director of Novices (Fr Jorge García and Fr Gabino Hernández, respectively) and many other Salesians and members of the Salesian Family.
In his homily the Rector Major reminded those present that vocation “as God`s gift is something unique and unrepeatable for each one, such that no-one else is called to do what that person is called to do, which means that we have to carry out the task or, contrarywide, God`s plan for us will not bear fruit. Whoever does what he must do, Fr Chávez- went one, allows the gift of his personal call to be fulfilling for others and lets them glimpse the miracle of life in Christ. This was we can all be faithful to what we are called to do. That`s how vocation is. It is being called by God and when we say `yes`, the Church rejoices”.
