(ANS - San Salvador) - With the support of a German foundation, the Don Bosco University has inaugurated the “Karlheinz Wolfgang Centre for Sciences of Technology, Optimization and Professionalism" named after the president of the foundation. The new work will benefit 200 teachers and 4,000 students in the faculties of Engineering and Aeronautical and Technological Studies; and about another 100 teachers and 3,000 students of secondary schools in the area.

The centre will be used for high-level training in various disciplines and will also allow students to develop their autonomy and responsibility, thanks to the Salesian charism and individual psychological attention.

One of the main components is the so-called "One World Competence Centre" (OWCC), a centre for the transfer of skills, training in individual psychology and courses in optimization and professionalism.

The purpose of OWCC is to provide contact with universities, science and technology centres and centres of world-class innovation, with possibilities for simultaneous videoconferences with 5 offices, distance learning courses and virtual education, with the latest equipment.

The new premises will also serve to boost courses in scientific disciplines specifically for women, the international exchange of teachers, scholarships for young women in courses related to engineering and the professional training of teachers who are doing a doctorate.

The Minister of Education, Carlos Canjura, stressed that education is a fundamental requirement for the advancement of society and that this centre is a part of this development path.

The Rector of Don Bosco University, José Humberto Flores, said that the new centre will ensure the quality and style of life of thousands of young people living in the vicinity.

The Centre was built with the economic cooperation of the German foundation "Karlheinz Wolfgang Stiftung für Bildung und Gesundheit (KwS)".
