(ANS - Kazipet) - Even little children are capable of great gestures: the children who attend the Club of Human Rights in the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have decided to put aside some of their money to support their peers in Chennai, who were severely tested by the floods last December.

The promoters of this initiative are young people who attend the Club of Human Rights promoted by PARA (Popular Action for Rural Awakening), a social initiative of the Salesians in India.

During one of their regular meetings, children's clubs in Kazipet decided to help a fellow student who for days could no longer attend school because he had to help his sick mother. Later, thinking of the many children experiencing difficulties due to the floods in Chennai, which also affected their participation in school activities, they decided to start a fundraiser on their behalf - not an outside fundraiser but one between themselves, drawing on their savings and their pocket money. So, once they took on this commitment, they extended it to all schools in the network for Human Rights in the two states.

This commitment of solidarity on the part of the young people has resulted in a collection of 150 thousand rupees (€2,000), and led to the participation in the initiative by all the staff members of PARA, who have donated for this purpose 10% of their salaries - bringing the total amount raised to 175 thousand rupees.

Three representatives of the children, along with three teachers, then went to Chennai and, with the help of two Salesian past pupils, H. Alphonse and Emmanuel Jayaraj, presented school uniforms, books and school supplies, as well as three powerful computers, to various institutes in Chennai, including a centre for the blind and deaf, and the International Agency for the Prevention of AIDS.
