(ANS - Milan) - On the initiative of TGS, the National Youth Tourism Association, the Association for Social Promotion of the Salesians of Don Bosco and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians will hold an event on Sunday 27 September in Casa Don Bosco at Expo 2015. It is entitled "Sustainable Tourism: we can learn with young people to safeguard creation".

There will be a panel discussion organized to coincide with the 36th World Day of Tourism.  It aims to be a stimulus to reflection and search for common solutions, particularly among young people, on the themes of Sustainable Tourism, Respect for the Environment and Conservation of Creation, not only for the Salesian Family, but for the whole church.

Some of the themes were mentioned recently by the Pope himself:”I urgently appeal, then, for a new dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet. We need a conversation which includes everyone, since the environmental challenge we are undergoing, and its human roots, concern and affect us all.”(Encyclical Letter "Laudato Si’" of the Holy Father Pope Francis, par. 14).

The speakers at Casa Don Bosco will include:

  • Msgr Mario Lusek, Director of the National Office for the Pastoral Care of Leisure, Tourism and Sport of the Italian Bishops' Conference;
  • Professor Gianfranco Spinelli, Professor of Geography and Economic Policy, University of Eastern Piedmont;
  • Dr Nicola Callegaro, Head of Sustainable Tourism, Directorate of Culture and Tourism, the City of Venice.
  • Moderated by Professor Paul Pomati, Head of the Communication Office at the University of Eastern Piedmont.

The panel discussion will allow TGS to present their activities in the field of sustainable tourism, showing best practices and the most active local groups throughout the country, with an eye on the Salesian educational project and in dialogue between TGS and the schools.

The best photos submitted to the photo contest sponsored by TGS last summer will be displayed.
