(ANS – Mumbai) – Japanese motor giant, Toyota, has joined forces with “Don Bosco Center for Learning-Saint Joseph’s Industrial Training Institute” (ITI), Kurla, to launch a distinctive one-year training course for vehicular body and paint repairs.

by Amarr Prabhu

The T-TEP body and paint curriculum has a one year syllabus that introduces students to Toyota’s advanced technology and service techniques.

Students are trained in basic body and paint repair skills in addition to dealer specific requirements, thereby improving their knowledge of repair techniques and facilitating the adoption of latest technology in body and paint.

Part of this programme also includes on-the-job training at Toyota’s dealerships. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) will also train the institute’s instructors in the latest technology used at Toyota and the automobile industry.

The current automobile repair industry is characterised by inadequately skilled manpower and lack of professional training for repair and diagnostics.

This programme has been successfully introduced in 53 countries, and through it TKM will enhance the technical abilities and employability of ITI trainees as well as non-ITI students in the age group of 16 to 18 years.

Fr Adolph Furtado, former Rector of Don Bosco Centre of Learning (DBCL), Fr Colbert da Silva, the current Rector, and Mahesh N. Salkar, Senior Vice- President, CSG, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt, Ltd were present for the inauguration of the state-of-the-art training centre on 7 July.

All necessary support has been given with hi-tech training packages and Toyota service training manuals and materials. Training consumables, visiting faculty, training material, tools, equipment all become available to Saint Joseph’s ITI throughout the training period.

This unique initiative undertaken by Toyota in partnership with Saint Joseph's ITI increases the opportunities that DBCL offers the marginalised youth for their life and livelihood.
