(ANS - Štrbské Pleso) - The 2015 University Winter Games are taking place in Spain and Slovakia from 24 January to 14 February. This is a major international sporting event, much like the Winter Olympics, involving university student athletes from around the world. Some Salesian students were involved in televising the event.

The Slalom and Nordic Skiing competitions took place until 1 February at Štrbské Pleso, one of the two Slovak venues for the 27th University Winter Games. Media coverage was entrusted by the organizing committee to Global Production of Turin. This company has been closely linked to the Salesians in Italy for years. In addition to its core business, it produces live television from the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians for the feast of Don Bosco, for the feast of Mary Help of Christians and various Salesian youth events in Italy and in Europe.

On this particular occasion, thanks to Stefano Bianco (Director of Global Production), two students of the Salesian School of Žilina were given an opportunity to participate in the television production of this global event, for the entire duration of the competition.

The two students, Dominik Bačkor and Tomáš Fečo, accompanied by their teacher, Bro. Ján Drgon, SDB, were able to participate actively in the production, and to see how a sports programme is made. They were an integral part of the production team.

"For me it was an amazing experience, having the opportunity to see the entire production process, and learn how a sports programme is made  ... it was a powerful experience also from the professional point of view," said Dominik after the event. His friend Tomas was also very satisfied and said it was an "entirely new and exciting experience."

Among the duties of the two boys, now, is to share what they experienced and learned in this unique experience with their classmates who are studying in the School of Žilina, to help them all to develop their knowledge of the digital media sector and enhance their job prospects.
