(ANS - Madrid) - Today, Wednesday 17 December, the TV3 programme Els Matins is linked directly to the Salesian House of Sant Boi de Llobregat, to show how they are preparing for the "Campaign of the King" with a show entitled Ningún niño sin juguete (no child without a toy). The campaign refers to the traditional celebration of the Three Kings in Spain on the occasion of the Epiphany. It has been run by the Salesians for over 25 years.
The Salesians at Mataró are also promoting the Campaign of the Kings. They assign a "godparent" to every child who, because of the economic situation of their family, will not receive a gift on the Feast of the Epiphany. On the "Night of the Kings", some volunteers, dressed as the Three Kings and servants, will go to the homes of these families and deliver gifts.
Similar initiatives will be conducted by the Salesian Youth Centre of Martí Codolar, by the Salesians of Girona and by other Salesian houses in the Mary Help of Christians Province, Spain.
In Girona, a benefit concert is planned in the parish on 21 December with proceeds going to support scholarships for summer activities for young people from areas of social exclusion.
The alms collected at the Shrine of Tibidabo will go to the Caritas campaign and the Assis reception centre. At Salesianos - PES La Mina they will collect materials for the Mother and Child project, such as diapers, wipes and creams for babies, bibs, clothes, milk powder and physiological serum. The Salesian school of Horta and the Magone Foundation Social Centre are also supporting this project.
The Salesian school of Calós, in Ciutadella de Menorca, is working with Caritas to pick up groceries and Christmas products so that Christmas can be celebrated in every family. This initiative involves students and teachers of the institute. They accompany the Caritas workers and volunteers, in an experience that always leaves the participants enriched and more aware of social problems.
At the Salesian House of Sant Vicenç dels Horts the Christmas campaign collects school supplies and money to be allocated to the secondary school of the Salesians in Cinkassé, in Togo. This project was started by the Salesian NGO VOLS - Voluntariat Solidari.
