(ANS - Rome)– On 7 July the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consent of his Council, appointed Fr Karol Maník as the new Superior of the Mary Help of Christians Circumscription, Ukraine, for the six years from 2014 to 2020.
Karol Maník was born on 3 October 1967 in Presov which was then in Czechoslovakia. He entered the Salesian novitiate at Levoca in 1989. He made his first profession on 31 January 1990 and perpetual profession on 17 February 1995 in his home town of Presov. On 12 August of the same year he was ordained a priest, also in Presov.
In the years 1996 to 2008 he resided at the Salesian houses in Mamateyova and Miletičova, as Vice-Rector and then Rector in the former, and as member of the House Council and then Rector in the latter.
In the Slovak Province he was a member of the Provincial Council, Delegate for Formation, Vice-Provincial and Delegate for Schools, before being appointed Provincial in 2008, replacing Fr Štefan Turanský, who had been elected by the 26th General Chapter as Councillor for the then North European Region.
Fr Maník will assume his new position on 15 October on the occasion of the visit of the Rector Major to Lviv.
