(ANS - Rome) - Yesterday, Tuesday 7 January 2014, after consultation with his Council, the Rector Major Fr Pascual Chávez appointed Fr Jozef Izold as the new Superior of the Mary Help of Christians Province in Slovakia.
Fr Izold will be 50 years old in a few weeks’ time. He was born on 30 January 1964 in Rybník nad Hronom in the district of Levice in the former Czechoslovakia. He made his first profession on 10 August 1991 in Vel'ká Poprad and his final profession on 18 August 18 1997 in Zilina. He studied theology at Crocetta in Turin and was ordained priest on 20 January 2001, also in Zilina.
He holds a Licentiate in Philosophy and since 2000 has been teaching at the post-novitiate in Zilina. From 2005 to 2008 he has also held the position of Rector of the post-novitiate community. Since 2005 he has been a member of the Provincial Council since 2008 he has been Vice-Provincial and Delegate for Formation.
He participated in the 26th General Chapter and will also take part in GC27.
There are 212 Salesians in the Slovak province, working in communities in Slovakia, Siberia and Russia and at Baku in Azerbaijan.
